This really bothered me. The babysitter is coughing profusely. She's pregnant and couldn't risk taking any cough medicine. My little one might catch it from her. Plus I have work the following day and I couldn't sleep because of her continuous coughing. Lemon and pineapple juices didn't make her feel any better. And then I remembered about an article forwarded to me a few years back. Accordingly, to stop nighttime coughing in a child (and adults too) put Vicks Vapor Rub generously at the soles of the feet at bedtime and then put socks on. So I told the babysitter to do it. After about 5 minutes, she is sleeping soundly. Haha! Amazing! I just thought it might work but it did indeed. I never knew that Vicks could work this fast. I was raised with Vicks and have always known that it relieves symptoms of cough and congestion when applied to chest, neck and back but not to feet. This leads me to search about the all-time ointment we have been using for God knows how long. I may find other interesting and amazing uses of Vicks and guess what? I am right:
1. For tired and achy muscles. Apply a generous amount on the aching area . It relieves overworked muscles.
2. Nail Fungus. Rub on affected toenail. After days of doing so, the nail will turn dark and grows out. You will then have a fungus-free feet.
3. Your cat/dog hates the smell of Vicks. Open a bottle on areas where you don't want your pet to pee or poop or scratch, they'll steer clear.
4. Cuts and burns. To speed up healing time and prevent infection, put Vicks on them.
5. Headache. Put Vicks on your temple and forehead. It will help relieve your headache.
6. Insect bites. Try a small dab on the affected portion
7. Vicks wards off mosquitoes. Apply a small amount on your skin and clothes and mosquitoes will go away. Haven't tried this though.
It's still best that you use Vicks appropriately. There's one case where an 18-month old was rushed to the hospital because she's having trouble breathing. It was reported that it was after her grandparents put Vicks under her nostrils. There are children who are sensitive to this ointment but very few. Exercise caution in using Vicks on the face or on young children. It has an active ingredient which is camphor that is not intended to be swallowed.
Whatever the case maybe, be sure to always keep Vicks close. You'll never know when you're next cough ..or next nail fungus will be (-;
